Consultant website design that converts visitors into high-value clients

Generic consultant websites blend together like beige wallpaper. If your site doesn't immediately demonstrate your unique value and expertise, prospects are clicking back to find someone who does.

Original 2026 data

The state of consultant websites in 2026

I sampled 4,317 consulting practices across 24 cities, then audited the 3,055 websites among them. Here is where the score comes from, what those sites run on, and where the points are going.

70/100

Grade C, tied 34th of 47 industries I audited

Where the points went

The score is ten weighted checks, ranked here by what each one costs. The biggest single loss is page speed, at 6.2 of its 15 points. Longer bar, more points left on the table.

  • Page speed 6.2 lost of 15
  • Publishes a blog 6.0 lost of 10
  • Links a social profile 3.9 lost of 10
  • Google reviews 3.6 lost of 15
  • Schema markup 3.3 lost of 10
  • Mobile-friendly 2.9 lost of 15
  • Analytics installed 2.3 lost of 5
  • Meta description 1.4 lost of 5
  • HTTPS 0.7 lost of 10
  • Title tag 0.1 lost of 5

30 points of 100 left on the table. Track length is the check's weight, so a five-point check can never cost what a fifteen-point one does. Each check is averaged across the 24 markets, the same way the score itself is built, so these ten bars add back to the 70 above. The table at the foot of this section pools by sample size instead, which answers a different question and lands a little differently. Weights are on the methodology page.

Independents against the chains

I can tell a franchise or chain location from an independent, so here are both, on the checks where they split hardest. The widest gap is analytics: 49% of independents against 84% of chains.

  • Independents (2,633 sites)
  • Chains and franchises (422 sites)
  • Runs analytics 49% vs 84%
  • Links a social profile 57% vs 87%
  • Publishes a blog 37% vs 58%
  • Uses schema markup 64% vs 84%
  • Has sharing tags 72% vs 91%
  • Has an H1 70% vs 87%

Scale runs 0 to 100%. Only the checks where both groups were measured the same way are comparable, so speed and the meta checks sit this one out.

What these sites are built on

The platform behind each of the 3,055 homepages I audited, where I could identify one.

  • WordPress 40.4%
  • Wix 9.0%
  • Squarespace 7.9%
  • GoDaddy 4.9%
  • Drupal 2.2%
  • Shopify 1.7%

A platform was identified on 75% of audited sites. The rest are hand-built or run something the fingerprinting misses, and a site can match more than one, so these do not sum to 100%.

How I counted

Every rate above has its own denominator. This is where they come from, out of the 8,480 businesses in this trade in my listings census.

  1. Businesses sampled 4,317 100%
  2. Had a website 3,653 85%
  3. Homepage audited 3,055 71%
  4. Speed-tested 1,928 45%

Of the sites that never made it into the audit, 393 would not load, 184 blocked me, and 21 turned out to be a social profile rather than a website. 422 of the businesses sampled are chain or franchise locations. Full method on the methodology page.

One new engagement can cover years of website costs. Here is how we position your expertise online so the right clients find you and reach out.

Responsive

Decision-makers review consultant profiles on phones during commutes and downtime. Mobile-optimized case studies and contact forms capture executive attention.

Performance

No guessing how your consulting website is performing

Every month you get a plain-English report covering what was done on your site, how your organic traffic is trending, and which pages are generating the most qualified leads. Credibility is your product. You deserve a web partner who is as transparent with you as you are with your own clients.

How Our Pricing Works

Why pay too much for your consultants web designer?

There is nothing to finance here. Your consulting website costs $0 to build, then $95 a month for everything after that. The site is yours from the first month, not after two years of payments. Start attracting high-value clients on day one, and cancel any month you like.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about consultants web design

Everything you want to know about getting a website built for your consulting practice.

What should I put on my consultant website if my work is confidential?

Anonymized case studies showing results without client names. 'Helped Series B SaaS company reduce churn 40% in 6 months' works fine. Prospects want proof you can deliver, not specific company names.

Should I show my consulting rates on my website?

At minimum, show your pricing structure (hourly, project-based, retainer). You don't need exact rates, but 'starting at $X' or 'typical projects range from $X to $Y' helps qualify leads and saves everyone time.

How do I stand out from other consultants online?

Stop being generic. 'Strategy consultant' means nothing. 'I help B2B SaaS companies fix their sales process' is specific and attracts the right clients. Show your methodology and actual results, not buzzwords.

Do I need a blog on my consulting website?

Only if you'll actually write. One great article per quarter beats a blog that hasn't been updated since 2019. Better to have no blog than a dead one that makes you look inactive.

What's the best way to get discovery calls from my website?

Make scheduling stupid easy with a calendar link. High-value prospects don't want to email back and forth about availability. Calendly or similar tools book more calls than contact forms ever will.

How important is mobile for a consultant website?

Very. Executives and decision-makers browse consultant websites on phones during downtime. If your site looks broken on mobile, you look unprofessional and they move on.

How do I differentiate from other consultants online?

Stop being vague. 'Strategy consultant' means nothing. 'I fix broken sales processes for B2B SaaS companies' is specific and attracts the right clients. Niche down ruthlessly.

How long until I get consulting leads from my website?

Depends on your strategy. LinkedIn content can generate leads within weeks. SEO takes 3-6 months for competitive consulting keywords. Most consultants see better ROI from direct outreach than organic traffic.

Should I gate my best content behind email signup?

Don't gate blog posts or insights. Gate actual deliverables like templates, worksheets, or frameworks. Give away your thinking for free. Charge for implementation and your time.

Do I need client logos on my website?

Only if you have permission and they're recognizable brands. Random company logos don't impress anyone. Better to show results without names than list unknown companies.
