What your hospitality website needs

Your hotel or resort website should drive direct bookings and reduce your dependence on expensive booking platforms. Here are the 6 essential features that convert browsers into confirmed reservations:

Room types with photos and pricing

Display all accommodation options with high-quality images, amenities, and seasonal rates.

Real-time booking availability

Show which dates are available and let guests complete reservations instantly without calling.

Property amenities showcase

Highlight your pool, restaurant, spa, fitness center, and other features that make you unique.

Local attractions and directions

Help guests plan their visit with information about nearby restaurants, activities, and transportation.

Special packages and promotions

Feature seasonal deals, romance packages, or group discounts to drive direct bookings.

Guest reviews and ratings

Display verified testimonials from past guests to build trust and credibility with prospects.

Original 2026 data

The state of hospitality websites in 2026

I sampled 3,350 hospitality businesses across 24 cities, then audited the 1,542 websites among them. Here is where the score comes from, what those sites run on, and where the points are going.

68/100

Grade D, tied 43rd of 47 industries I audited

Mobile speed

Where the points went

The score is ten weighted checks, ranked here by what each one costs. The biggest single loss is page speed, at 8.5 of its 15 points. Longer bar, more points left on the table.

  • Page speed 8.5 lost of 15
  • Publishes a blog 8.3 lost of 10
  • Mobile-friendly 5.2 lost of 15
  • Links a social profile 2.7 lost of 10
  • Analytics installed 2.5 lost of 5
  • Schema markup 2.2 lost of 10
  • Google reviews 1.5 lost of 15
  • Meta description 0.7 lost of 5
  • HTTPS 0.4 lost of 10
  • Title tag 0.0 lost of 5

32 points of 100 left on the table. Track length is the check's weight, so a five-point check can never cost what a fifteen-point one does. Each check is averaged across the 24 markets, the same way the score itself is built, so these ten bars add back to the 68 above. The table at the foot of this section pools by sample size instead, which answers a different question and lands a little differently. Weights are on the methodology page.

Independents against the chains

I can tell a franchise or chain location from an independent, so here are both, on the checks where they split hardest. The widest gap is social profile links: 65% of independents against 91% of chains.

  • Independents (1,155 sites)
  • Chains and franchises (387 sites)
  • Links a social profile 65% vs 91%
  • Has an H1 73% vs 96%
  • Uses schema markup 73% vs 91%
  • Loads over HTTPS 95% vs 99%
  • Publishes a blog 17% vs 19%
  • Homepage contact form 12% vs 6%

Scale runs 0 to 100%. Only the checks where both groups were measured the same way are comparable, so speed and the meta checks sit this one out.

What these sites are built on

The platform behind each of the 1,542 homepages I audited, where I could identify one.

  • WordPress 17.8%
  • Squarespace 3.2%
  • Wix 2.1%
  • Gatsby 2.1%
  • Framer 1.8%
  • Shopify 1.3%

A platform was identified on 36% of audited sites. The rest are hand-built or run something the fingerprinting misses, and a site can match more than one, so these do not sum to 100%.

How I counted

Every rate above has its own denominator. This is where they come from, out of the 6,483 businesses in this trade in my listings census.

  1. Businesses sampled 3,350 100%
  2. Had a website 2,652 79%
  3. Homepage audited 1,542 46%
  4. Speed-tested 1,258 38%

Of the sites that never made it into the audit, 318 would not load, 787 blocked me, and 5 turned out to be a social profile rather than a website. 387 of the businesses sampled are chain or franchise locations. Full method on the methodology page.

How Our Pricing Works

Why pay too much for your hospitality web designer?

No deposit, no build fee, no two-year math. Your hotel website is $95 a month, and that one number covers the build, the hosting, the SEO, the updates and direct access to Patrick. It is yours from month one, so you can start generating direct bookings on day one and still walk away whenever you want.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about hospitality web design

Everything you want to know about getting a website built for your hospitality business.

How do I get direct bookings instead of Booking.com?

Make booking on your site as easy as the platforms, offer a small discount for direct reservations, and show real-time availability. Booking.com takes a commission on every reservation, so even a modest direct deal leaves you ahead. Match their convenience, beat their price.

Should I show room pricing on my hotel website?

Yes, with seasonal rates or ranges. 'Rooms from $149-$249' gives guests a ballpark. Better yet, show live pricing with booking availability. The easier you make price discovery, the more direct bookings you'll get.

What's the most important feature for a hotel website?

Fast, mobile-friendly booking with real-time availability. Most people book hotels on their phones. If your site is slow or clunky on mobile, they're booking on Expedia instead.

Do I need a photo gallery of every room type?

Absolutely. High-quality photos from multiple angles showing beds, bathrooms, views, and amenities. People want to see exactly what they're paying for. Skimp on photos, lose bookings.

Should I offer package deals on my website?

Yes. Romance packages, adventure packages, family getaways. Bundles increase average booking value and give people reasons to choose you over generic hotel listings. Promote them prominently.

How critical is mobile for hotel websites?

Absolutely critical. Only 64.3% of the hospitality sites I audited passed the mobile-friendly check, behind 78.2% nationally. If your booking flow is slow or broken on a phone, guests book on Expedia instead.

How do I get direct bookings instead of Booking.com?

Match their convenience, beat their price. Offer a discount for booking direct, make reserving on your site as easy as the platforms, and show real-time availability. Save guests money, save yourself the commission.

Should I show different prices for different seasons?

Show starting prices or ranges ('Rooms from $149-$299 depending on season'). Dynamic pricing confuses some guests but transparency about seasonal rates helps set expectations.

Do I need professional photos or can I use phone photos?

Professional photography for hospitality is mandatory. Guests judge hotels by photos. Amateur phone shots make your property look cheap. Invest in professional photography or lose bookings.

How important are guest reviews on my website?

Critical. Embed TripAdvisor or Google reviews prominently. Guests trust other guests more than your marketing. Great reviews close bookings, no reviews create doubt.
