Practice areas with case types
List the specific legal issues you handle from personal injury to estate planning with clear examples.
People hiring attorneys are scared and need reassurance. A sketchy website, hidden fees, or zero information about your actual experience makes them trust the lawyer with the more professional online presence instead.

Your legal website must establish credibility and generate case leads while you're in court or meeting with clients. Here are the 6 essential features that build trust and book consultations:
List the specific legal issues you handle from personal injury to estate planning with clear examples.
Let prospects schedule initial meetings to discuss their case without any financial commitment.
Introduce your lawyers with credentials, experience, and successful case outcomes or settlements.
Organize reviews by legal specialty so prospects see relevant feedback from similar cases.
Provide helpful guides, articles, and answers to common questions prospects research before hiring.
Explain how you charge, contingency, hourly, or flat fee, so clients understand costs upfront.
I sampled 3,849 law firms across 24 cities, then audited the 2,969 websites among them. Here is where the score comes from, what those sites run on, and where the points are going.
75/100
Grade C, tied 5th of 47 industries I audited
The score is ten weighted checks, ranked here by what each one costs. The biggest single loss is page speed, at 5.4 of its 15 points. Longer bar, more points left on the table.
26 points of 100 left on the table. Track length is the check's weight, so a five-point check can never cost what a fifteen-point one does. Each check is averaged across the 24 markets, the same way the score itself is built, so these ten bars add back to the 75 above. The table at the foot of this section pools by sample size instead, which answers a different question and lands a little differently. Weights are on the methodology page.
I can tell a franchise or chain location from an independent, so here are both, on the checks where they split hardest. The widest gap is social profile links: 55% of independents against 88% of chains.
Scale runs 0 to 100%. Only the checks where both groups were measured the same way are comparable, so speed and the meta checks sit this one out.
The platform behind each of the 2,969 homepages I audited, where I could identify one.
A platform was identified on 79% of audited sites. The rest are hand-built or run something the fingerprinting misses, and a site can match more than one, so these do not sum to 100%.
Every rate above has its own denominator. This is where they come from, out of the 22,175 businesses in this trade in my listings census.
Of the sites that never made it into the audit, 221 would not load, 66 blocked me, and 8 turned out to be a social profile rather than a website. 310 of the businesses sampled are chain or franchise locations. Full method on the methodology page.

Everything you want to know about getting a website built for your law firm.
Show your fee structure (contingency, hourly, flat fee) at minimum. 'Personal injury: contingency, no upfront costs' or 'Estate planning: flat fee starting at $X' builds trust. Mystery pricing makes people nervous about calling.
Only if you'll write helpful articles regularly. One great article per quarter about common legal issues beats a dead blog from 2020. Focus on video or social if you're not a writer.
Credentials, case results, client testimonials, and clear practice area descriptions. 'Recovered $12M for personal injury clients' or '200+ estate plans completed' proves competence. Show real results, not platitudes.
Prominent 'Free Consultation' offers with easy online scheduling. People hiring lawyers are stressed and uncertain. Remove every barrier between 'I need help' and 'I have an appointment booked.'
Absolutely. Someone searching 'personal injury lawyer' has different needs than 'estate planning attorney.' Create specific pages for each practice area and you'll rank better and attract qualified clients.
Very important. People search for lawyers on phones during emergencies or after accidents. If your site doesn't work on mobile or loads slowly, they're calling lawyers with working websites.
Big firms are impersonal. You provide personal attention and actually answer your phone. Emphasize accessibility, responsiveness, and that clients work directly with you, not associates.
If you have strong results, yes. '$2.5M personal injury verdict' or '150+ successful DUI defenses' proves competence. Follow bar association rules about advertising claims.
Only if you'll write consistently about legal issues your clients face. One helpful article per quarter about local laws beats a dead blog from 2020. Quality over quantity.
Google Ads for personal injury or criminal defense can generate calls immediately. For organic SEO, expect 6-12 months. Legal keywords are extremely competitive and expensive.
