Interior and exterior services
Separate residential and commercial painting services with specific examples like cabinets or staining.
Homeowners hiring painters need to see your actual work, not stock photos of random painted walls. If your portfolio is weak or missing, they're hiring the painter whose quality they can actually evaluate.

Your painting website should book residential and commercial jobs while you're on ladders and job sites. Here are the 6 essential features that turn faded walls into signed estimates:
Separate residential and commercial painting services with specific examples like cabinets or staining.
Offer help choosing colors and finishes with in-home or virtual consultations for design guidance.
Show completed jobs organized by room type, exterior vs interior, and color transformations.
Let homeowners submit project details, square footage, and photos for accurate painting quotes.
Explain your preparation, priming, painting, and cleanup steps so clients know what to expect.
Highlight low-VOC, zero-VOC, and environmentally responsible paint choices you offer.
I sampled 1,912 painting companies across 24 cities, then audited the 1,276 websites among them. Here is where the score comes from, what those sites run on, and where the points are going.
72/100
Grade C, tied 26th of 47 industries I audited
The score is ten weighted checks, ranked here by what each one costs. The biggest single loss is blogging, at 7.1 of its 10 points. Longer bar, more points left on the table.
28 points of 100 left on the table. Track length is the check's weight, so a five-point check can never cost what a fifteen-point one does. Each check is averaged across the 24 markets, the same way the score itself is built, so these ten bars add back to the 72 above. The table at the foot of this section pools by sample size instead, which answers a different question and lands a little differently. Weights are on the methodology page.
I can tell a franchise or chain location from an independent, so here are both, on the checks where they split hardest. The widest gap is analytics: 49% of independents against 94% of chains.
Scale runs 0 to 100%. Only the checks where both groups were measured the same way are comparable, so speed and the meta checks sit this one out.
The platform behind each of the 1,276 homepages I audited, where I could identify one.
A platform was identified on 71% of audited sites. The rest are hand-built or run something the fingerprinting misses, and a site can match more than one, so these do not sum to 100%.
Every rate above has its own denominator. This is where they come from, out of the 1,919 businesses in this trade in my listings census.
Of the sites that never made it into the audit, 166 would not load, 20 blocked me, and 36 turned out to be a social profile rather than a website. 122 of the businesses sampled are chain or franchise locations. Full method on the methodology page.

Everything you want to know about getting a website built for your painting company.
Show starting prices or ranges. 'Interior room from $400,' 'Exterior home from $3,500,' 'Cabinet refinishing from $1,200.' Gives homeowners a ballpark without locking you into firm quotes.
Free estimate form where people describe their project, upload photos, and provide square footage. Make it easy to request quotes and respond fast. Homeowners are calling 3-5 painters. Speed wins jobs.
Absolutely. Show actual completed projects, not stock photos. Homeowners want to see your quality, color transformations, and attention to detail. Organize by interior/exterior and room type.
Yes. Homeowners struggle with color choices. Offering color consultation (even for a small fee or free with paint job) is a differentiator that books jobs. Advertise it clearly on your website.
Reviews, licensing info, insurance coverage, and photos of your actual completed work (not stock images). Painting has plenty of fly-by-night operators. Prove you're professional and legitimate.
Important. Homeowners browse painters on phones while getting estimates or planning projects. If estimate forms don't work on mobile or photos don't load, they request quotes elsewhere.
Franchises have overhead and corporate process. You're owner-operated with personal attention. Emphasize that the owner oversees jobs and quality control. Personal service beats franchise systems.
If you offer it, absolutely. Many homeowners struggle with color choices. 'Free color consultation with every job' or 'Virtual color planning available' differentiates you from basic paint slappers.
Yes. Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr. Some homeowners care about paint quality and recognize premium brands. Listing brands you use signals quality.
Google Ads for '[city] painter' gets estimate requests immediately. For SEO, 60-90 days for local searches. Most painters run seasonal ads in spring when painting projects surge.
Unsure about moving forward? Patrick wants to make you a promise. No contracts, no hidden costs, no runaround. Just honesty and support. 90 seconds.
